Well  summer is upon us at last, so the members of HFDXARC  got the outdoor repairs and servicing done.

We hope you enjoy this little write-up and pictures which speak for themselves.

First up is to service our HY-Gain TH3 which is over 35 years old now and still in great shape.

We check each year all the stainless steel nuts and bolts and re grease them.

Check over the traps and retune the beam as required , this year saw work been done on the shotgun match and balun connections.

who`s doing what

Wail the tower was hoisted over for removal of the beam, we had time to do some much-needed welding on the yard-arm to give it extra support for heavier wire aerials , Kevin 2E0KVK along with Steve 2E0NSQ, made easy work of this job, Kevin had not welded for over 20 years, but he was like duck to water once again with that old stick welder.

With all the antenna and tower work underway,it was time once again to look at the roof on the radio club, it had sprung a leak over the winter.

It was soon found that water had stood on part of the roof and had leak in. We had to fill a hollow and some cracks on the concrete slab, so a cement slurry mix for roofs was laid, then left all day and over night to dry, the following  morning it was time to seal the roof again with cromapol roof sealer, after  two good coats  roof was compete, we hope this repair will last a good few years as it say so on the tin.

Slideshow below

With all the servicing and repairs now done it’s time for a well-earned BBQ and a few beers

VHF Field Day 2013

Vhf field day starts off with great weather sun shining and 26 deg’s and everyone starts to turn up for the weekend camp over pitching tent and caravans.

Saturday morning starts off with getting our portable shack in place and masts setup for 2 pm saturday kick off.

The 12 element Yagi for 2m is set to 10m height and guyed down all ready to go, John M0JBA set up camp and puts together his 70cm station with a home-made 7 element Yagi and 5 watts QRP which he operates from his tent into the wee small hours.

The contest kicks off and we soon find out the Yagi on 2m is working better than we thought it would with great results, contacts as far as spain are made over the 24 hours with just 100 watts.

In true Humber Fortress DX Sytle Saturday saw our normal event fish and chips supper which was enjoyed by all, the weekend before had seen a small party for an antenna install day at one of your members Jo 2E0JJO and Chris’s 2E0CWB QTH,

Whom put on a great BBQ and that was followed by a nice profiterole gateau, but one of our team Steve 2E0NSQ thought his serving was too small, it so happened Jo heard about this little moan of Steve’s, and on Sunday presented Steve with his own full profiterole gateau, the Greedy Cheap never shared it.

We are only kidding Steve..

A big thank you to all that supported the event.

Please enjoy a short slide show of the weekend

Congratulations in order once again

Congratulations are in order once again to the intermediate class on all passing their exams.

Kevin,Pat,Steve

Mr Kevin Simms (M6EYR now 2E0KVK) , father and son teamwork from Pat Walsh (M6BPW now 2E0KCW), Steve Walsh (M6OKB now 2E0OKP)

Well done Guys from all at the Club, we all know that Team Walsh had a few beers to celebrate later that night.

Mr Kevin Simms (AKA Bear Grylls ) had to rush off to his son’s 21st birthday held at a private fishing lake, Kevin was also partaking in a night fishing with his sons, Kevin was keen to show his sons he was no coward to camping out overnight, and in true Bear Grylls style, he set up his camp.

We are told that a fire was lit and BBQ could be smelt miles away as Kevin lead the way for a night’s fishing. Much beer had to be consumed by all but mainly by Kevin for him to fall into his survival bag and shiny tent.

In the night Kevin did not catch much fish, but had many a visit from the local wildlife which made a night under the star all worthwhile NOT.

Kevin, you’re a Sport and we all know your Sons enjoyed the night along with you.

INTERNATIONAL MUSEUMS ON THE AIR GB0FP

first weekend

 Andy G7LRR Bob M0RWL

Well, Saturday morning was our first weekend of I.M.O.T.A this year.  Andy G7LRR and Bob M0RWL started off the event with the call GB0FP.

Bob had a great pile up on 40m for most of the morning, with Andy trying hard on 20m.  The band was not good. Lunch time saw Jo 2E0JJO and Chris 2E0CBW arrive, and Jo was put in the hot seat by Bob on 40m.

Jo 2E0JJO

Jo left the shack at 11pm that night, after working over 180 stations on her own. Well done Jo; Great work for your first event,. We will have to watch out now, as we are told that she may be in the 80m cc contest. Mine and Jase’s scores may be at risk.

Chris 2E0CBW

Chris 2E0CBW has some fun on 20m and 80m bands. It was hard work and signals were well down, but Chris pulled a good number out. Well done.

Big Jon M6HDX

Big Jon M6HDX once again was like duck to water as he worked the pile up. Well, until someone hijacked his frequency. Jon had steam coming out of his ears.

Charlie 2E0CIK

Charlie 2E0CIK worked a good few on 40m but we all knew the pile up was waiting for the return of Jo so Charlie been the gentleman he is let Jo back on the radio  once again the pile up went mad .

Steve 2E0NSQ went on 40m late afternoon and had some great fun

Funny bones Steve 2E0NSQ went on 40m in the late afternoon and had some great fun. His style of operating is not to be copied at all. Only Steve can get away with what he does. Ask Steve about his Welsh choir when 4 GW’s called in at once. Such a funny moment that only NSQ could have pulled off.

Sean 2E0NSQ

Sean 2E0SCA came alone on Sunday. Unfortunately we had problems with the logging software. This is all fixed now.

This weekend saw 453 contacts made, of which Jo had worked 180. Once again, well done to Jo.

We now have a score to beat for the next weekend.

Weekend Number Two

The final weekend of museums on the air kicked off (not literally) on Friday evening.

Campers were in attendance with Andy G7LRR and Steve 2E0NSQ representing the caravan club. The campers also included Kevin 2E0KVK (AKA four sausages) and Val, Sean 2E0SCA, Steve 2E0BWP and John M0JBA. They had to brave some horrendous downpours under canvas. Saturday night saw Charlie 2E0CIK pitch camp for the bikers club.

Kevin 2E0KVK

The evening started off with a festive atmosphere contacts being made on 40 and 20 meters. Kevin 2E0KVK got his real first taste of a full blown pile up on 20m and enjoyed the experience. Well done Kev.

John G6LNV Bob M0RWL

Bob M0RWL and John G6LNV added many more contacts to the tally.

Saturday arrived with the survivors proceeding to make contacts on various bands. Charlie 2E0CIK arrived, along with Jo 2E0JJO (happy new car Jo), Chris 2E0CBW and Jon M6HDX.

Steve 2E0OKP

Steve 2E0OKP (AKA the phantom of the opera ) had some fun on 40m and is now getting his DX ears. Well done Steve.

On the Saturday we had the pleasure of helping two Cub Scouts achieve part of their communications badge.  This required them to make a contact on Amateur Radio, which was made possible using 2 meters ,with a club member using the radio in their car.  Both did extremely well, and showed interest in the hobby.

Saturday afternoon some fine weather finally arrived and the BBQ was dragged out. Thanks to Linda M6LGN, Jan 2E0NQS XYL , Val SWL,  Andrew M6LRR for preparing large quantities of lovely food and the drinks.

 Pat 2E0KCW

Pat 2E0KCW arrived with his wife Kay (or was it the Duchess of Cambridge) having been working his way round the UK last week. Again, the evening led to the usual festive atmosphere with food drinks and good company.

John M0JBA

John M0JBA worked 20m for some of the afternoon,John hunts down the QRP stations for us with his good ears.

20130615_233851

Sunday morning saw the weary campers surface to more rain falling. Pat Arrived early and proceeded on the radio on 40 Meters with Andy G7LRR appearing and jumping straight on to 80 meters. Kevin 2E0OAH and Jo 2E0JJO arrived shortly afterwards.

The tally for the weekend was just about equal to the previous weekend giving us a total of 1047 QSO’s over the event.

Trevor G1TDN
