Congratulations are in order once again to the intermediate class on all passing their exams.

Kevin,Pat,Steve

Mr Kevin Simms (M6EYR now 2E0KVK) , father and son teamwork from Pat Walsh (M6BPW now 2E0KCW), Steve Walsh (M6OKB now 2E0OKP)

Well done Guys from all at the Club, we all know that Team Walsh had a few beers to celebrate later that night.

Mr Kevin Simms (AKA Bear Grylls ) had to rush off to his son’s 21st birthday held at a private fishing lake, Kevin was also partaking in a night fishing with his sons, Kevin was keen to show his sons he was no coward to camping out overnight, and in true Bear Grylls style, he set up his camp.

We are told that a fire was lit and BBQ could be smelt miles away as Kevin lead the way for a night’s fishing. Much beer had to be consumed by all but mainly by Kevin for him to fall into his survival bag and shiny tent.

In the night Kevin did not catch much fish, but had many a visit from the local wildlife which made a night under the star all worthwhile NOT.

Kevin, you’re a Sport and we all know your Sons enjoyed the night along with you.

May 2011

Left to Right  John Medland – M6ZIY, John Cunliffe – G6LNV lead instructor ,Della Parsons – M6DDA

It seems a long time ago that Della and John and Jon attended the 2 weekends for the Foundation course and of course, they passed.
John M6ZIY chose this call sign as it compliments his Maritime call of ZIYP4, Della M6DDA she has a radio and maritime background, and took part in the Round the world yacht race 2010.
Regretfully Jon Falconer who took the exam at the same time as John and Della, missed his ticket by 1 point, due to exam nerves.
He has since conquered his fear and has taken his re-sit exam, passing with flying colors on Friday 20 May.
He was as of Sat 28th still waiting for his license, due to a paperwork error.
Well done Jon.
HFDX ARC congratulates all of them and welcomes them to the wonderful world of amateur radio.

June 2011
In June we will be starting our first Intermediate course on a Tuesday night at Fort Paull, at present we have 7 interested,
including Della and John who are keen to start the Intermediate course with some opting for partial studies at home due to otherworldly commitments (work).
There were 2 others that wish to take the course but are unable to as they work away.
Prospective radio amateurs come from all walks of life from Lorry drivers to Life boatmen, from Engineers to University Lecturers, nurses, postmen, and even shelf stackers at your local supermarket.
This list is endless as the hobby is open to all. “ if you have the interest “ Age isn’t a barrier either, we all complete the same training, so if you are 8 or 80 it doesn’t matter, you are all welcome.
With our training program, we can also help none club members achieve their training needs, as we are able to use Fort Paull’s theatre as a theory training room.
At present, we don’t have an Advanced course in the pipeline. Sorry. G6LNV

R.S.G.B 80m Club Call Contest

Hi All.
Wednesday the 12th of January saw the first (and I hope many more) of the RSGB club events/contests
With the 80m SSB.
This was organized by Andy G7LRR and Mr. Jason M0MGF thanks to Jason for the new log system
(Of which I still need more practice) but have been installed on the system at the shack.
Also, thanks to Mr. Andy for the work carried out on the antenna system which enabled us to
Transmit on the night.
The contest started at 20.00hrs local time Andy started with a good influx of calls at this time we
We’re still having slight problems with the antennas.
M0RWL took over with M0VEY as the logger it take a while to get into this sort of thing me been a
Newby and all but we gave our best, M0VEY then took over and tried his hand at contest work
Still with the antenna playing up(and Andy in the background trying very hard to bring the offending item to the task).
Many thanks to Mr. Simon 2E0GMW and Mr. Jason (GB2RN) for calling in.
Must admit nice to talk to Jason from down south.
Would be nice if we could encourage people with CW or data/psk to take part this would
Up our club points if interested please get in touch.
Most of the contests named above can be carried out at home with the points have been awarded
To the club.
Our rating would then be much higher and also get the club noticed.
Besides you never know you may enjoy it please make a bit of an effort.
Many thanks
Bob de M0RWL 73
Regards

Bob Lane
