VHF Field Day 2013

Vhf field day starts off with great weather sun shining and 26 deg’s and everyone starts to turn up for the weekend camp over pitching tent and caravans.

Saturday morning starts off with getting our portable shack in place and masts setup for 2 pm saturday kick off.

The 12 element Yagi for 2m is set to 10m height and guyed down all ready to go, John M0JBA set up camp and puts together his 70cm station with a home-made 7 element Yagi and 5 watts QRP which he operates from his tent into the wee small hours.

The contest kicks off and we soon find out the Yagi on 2m is working better than we thought it would with great results, contacts as far as spain are made over the 24 hours with just 100 watts.

In true Humber Fortress DX Sytle Saturday saw our normal event fish and chips supper which was enjoyed by all, the weekend before had seen a small party for an antenna install day at one of your members Jo 2E0JJO and Chris’s 2E0CWB QTH,

Whom put on a great BBQ and that was followed by a nice profiterole gateau,but one of our team Steve 2E0NSQ thought his serving was too small, it so happened Jo heard about this little moan of Steve’s, and on Sunday presented Steve with his own full profiterole gateau, the Greedy Cheap never shared it.

We are only kidding Steve..

Blackburn Beverley weekend 2013

Blackburn Beverley week-end. 8th Anniversary of this unique aircraft located at Fort Paull using GB0BB call sign from our Club House within the grounds of Fort Paull.


Hi all.

The Humber Fortress DX ARC will be activating GB0BB on the weekend of the 29th till 31st March 2013 from FORT PAULL, EAST YORKSHIRE where our club station is located to celebrate the 8th anniversary of this unique aircraft (the last remaining one of it’s type in the world) which is located here at Fort Paull.

We welcome operators/guest’s far and wide to our activations, those with campers/tents, we can accommodate for a very small overnight fee which go’s to the renovation fund at Fort Paull as this receives NO funding from any organizations.

There are toilet facilities and the radio club can do hot drinks etc…
A special QSL card will be available for all stations worked over the weekend showing the Blackburn Beverley in all it’s splendor.

To obtain your QSL card,  please send a SSAE to the QSL Manager, G1TDN

IRCs are no longer Valid in the UK.
Anybody who wishes to attend be it for a day or the full weekend, then please contact our events co-coordinator (Mr Bob Lane)

Fort Paull museum.

The plane was originally built at British Aerospace in Brough and made its final flight into Paull Aerodrome just outside the village, it remained there for ten years before being moved to the Beverley Army Museum where it was a focal point for visitors for several years. When the museum closed a bid was made by the Fort to purchase the aircraft. The bid was subsequently successful and in 2004 the Beverley returned home to Paull and opened to the public after re-assembly in 2005.

The staff at Fort Paull are extremely proud of this acquisition and are determined to preserve not just the fabric of the aircraft but also its history. Inside the aircraft you will find information regarding the history of the Blackburn Beverley and this specific aircraft in particular. You can also look around its massive frame and see just how much the plane could carry.

No visit to the Fort is complete without looking at the Blackburn Beverley.

 We all know what it is like to wear a hat and depending on

your age also depends on the style used, so with this in mind Mr Phil (M0VEY) was thrown a challenge.

This was given by Andy G7LRR Chairman of the Humber Fortress DX Amateur Radio Club.

The challenge was for M0VEY to wear a different type of hat, and cap headgear each week to the clubhouse located at Fort Paull, well with this sort of challenge thrown what would any decent law-abiding go up north once a month person do but accept and he did.

The very first picture was taken in the club prior to the start of the first RSGB short contest 80m SSB on Wednesday night the 4th of January.

So there you are folks a good start to the new year 2011.

Foundation Course

As many of you will be aware A foundation course is underway at the fort with the final exam being taken on the 29th of January which is a Sat morning.

So through this edition of the newsletter I would like to offer all the very best to Kevin And Frank hope to meet you On the airwaves very soon.

SOS RNLI

Next week sees the first RNLI event of the year for fundraising which is SOS RNLI and starts on Friday 28th of January the club however is supporting this event on Sat And Sun which is 22 and 23 from the clubhouse.

We need a small group of people to help erect and sort out the antennas which will be needed for this event so please If you are free and feel like a few hrs at the club then Contact Andy by e-mail.

This event is not replacing our own event GB2HLS which Is taking place later in the year and should be a lot of fun This year.
