Fort Paull museum.

The plane was originally built at British Aerospace in Brough and made its final flight into Paull Aerodrome just outside the village, it remained there for ten years before being moved to the Beverley Army Museum where it was a focal point for visitors for several years. When the museum closed a bid was made by the Fort to purchase the aircraft. The bid was subsequently successful and in 2004 the Beverley returned home to Paull and opened to the public after re-assembly in 2005.

The staff at Fort Paull are extremely proud of this acquisition and are determined to preserve not just the fabric of the aircraft but also its history. Inside the aircraft you will find information regarding the history of the Blackburn Beverley and this specific aircraft in particular. You can also look around its massive frame and see just how much the plane could carry.

No visit to the Fort is complete without looking at the Blackburn Beverley.

Lots of information about the history of the XB259 can be found at beverley-association.org.uk

Thinking Day On The Air Raywell Park

communicatator on the air

HFDXARC had been asked to assist in the above event which helps the Girl guides and younger packs (brownies, rainbows) get their communication badge.

The event organizer this year was Carol Fenteman, and may I say at this point, many thanks to you and all the staff (Leaders) for the many cups of tea and bacon and egg baps (could be a bread cake) at dinner time.

The day started at about 8-30 and once in, the lads from the Humber Fortress Fast Action Response Team (F.A.R.T.) had unloaded the vans and were ready to start erecting the antenna system that would be used for the next 8 hrs.

Well done to all involved, however I did notice the mast nearest to the building was 2 degrees out, hopefully by next year we can get this right.  This completed it was just a case of setting up the radios and waiting for the influx of the guides.

Time for a quick cup of tea before the hard work begins.

With all the guides settled in, Bob Lane gave a brief intro  to explain what today was about and what we as club members would be doing today, Bob then did an introduction to the club members who were on site.

This done it was time to switch all the equipment on and get started with the candidates.  A steady flow meant that all members were kept on their toes throughout both sessions am and pm, all guides/juniors and leaders were presented with their Certificates at the end of both sessions.

Andy G7LRR ran the HF station within the building whilst Andy M0TTL operated HF mobile.  This gave the candidates great confidence in operating for the first time, and of course whilst this was happening Jon M6HDX and John G6LNV alone with Kevin 2E0KVK were in fact doing the introduction on the 2 meter hand held’s.

By 4Pm and it was time to close down and pack away all the equipment which I can say did not take long.

This done it was time to say our good byes to staff and Raywell, pity it was persisting down with rain by then but never mind a good day was had by all.

Mr. Chairman Kevin 2E0KVK would like to thank the following members for their help and assistance.

Mr. Roger G4SEF who lives on the wrong side of the river, but did a very nice job designing the QSL cards for this event.

Mr. Trevor G1TDN who suggested this and followed it through to the printing and distribution.  The girls were very pleased Trevor, thanks.

Mr. John C. who designed and printed off the very nice Certificates which were presented to all the candidates.

Mr. Geoff M6INA who designed and printed the help/information sheets that the candidates used.

Welwick Heritage Weekend. (2014)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Well it’s the time of year when everyone starts mentioning Hull Fair weather rain and wind, not for the Humber Fortress DX ARC it means Welwick Weekend.

This year however we were blessed with two sunny days, despite a foggy start to the Sunday.

It all started on the Friday with Andy (G7LRR) and Linda (M6LGN) arriving first Syd (M1COV) already being there, closely followed by Charlie (2E0CIK) and Kevin (2E0KVK). Andy (G7LRR) kindly towed the shack in the form of Charlie’s (2E0CIK) caravan to the site, the aerial was erected with even ladders was invoked.

A quick trip back to the Fort Paull and the club, to collect the Radio and we were in business.

Friday evening and we headed for dinner at the Patrington Country Club with Syd and (M1COV) and his wife Ann. Andy (G7LRR) tackled the mixed grill which was enormous and did beat him. Pat (2EOKCW), who with precision timing arrived to help us eat dinner followed by a trip back to the village hall to sample some real ale.

The next morning saw the event in full swing, the field auction was attended and the club purchased a new stove thanks to Peter (M1DCE) for bidding on our behalf, so we now have for the club house a new pot belly stove for a very reasonable price.

Kevin (2E0KVK) started the radio operating followed by various operators through the day. Contacts were minimal due to other distractions, we were visited through the day by John (M0JBA) and Pete Rodmell (G3ZRS) and Andy . Other members attended but due to the new stealth caravan technology did not find us.

The evening saw attendance of the dance in the village hall with Syd, Charlie, Pat, Andy, Linda, Kevin,Geoff and Valerie (M6OGK) flying the flag. Not to mention sampling the Ale, Andy (G7LRR) was successful in the auction with some sweet but expensive chocolates (a tub of Roses other chocolates are available).

Sunday saw us up with the Larks thank to Andy knocking every one up @ 7am then with Andy (G7LRR) having to pick his way through the dense fog to get us to the Hornsea Rally.

The stall was a success but that is another story to be told.

All that remained was a return journey to back Welwick to strike camp.

All in all a very sociable weekend scattered with a bit of radio.

Thanks to Syd (M1COV) as always for organising this event and smoothing the way for us.
