Hex Beam Install at Spike’s G0CVL

Couple of weekend ago saw a team go up to Spike’s G0CVL QTH near Selby.
Spike had brought a Hex beam and required help installing it, along with some new nested dipoles the club had made for him.
The day started as always with the team meeting up at McDonalds near Goole for a breakfast as it is going to be to a long day.
we was at Spike a little after 11am and work got under way each team member a has own task to do.
With great team work Mike G7TYT working on the Hex beam great progress was made quickly as always Spike was in his supervisors roll keeping an eye on us all.

Mid afternoon we stopped again for food and drinks, with us all fed and watered the new Hex Beam was in the air and Spike made a good number of contacts as a test JA and VK among a few to brag about.

The two Johns M0JBA and G6LNV had the job of working out North by means of using the Sun and a watch we was impressed as it worked spot on this was to setup the rotator.

The time was quickly running out and the nested dipole are not tuned 100% as yet but working never the less with the ATU, we will be returning later in the summer to finish tuning Spike dipole array.

Spike would like to thank the team

Blackburn Beverley 24th – 31st March

Blackburn Beverley the Anniversary of this unique aircraft located at Fort Paull using GB0BB callsign from our Club House within the grounds of Fort Paull.

The club will be activating the callsign GB0BB, from Fort Paull. The event is to celebrate the 11th anniversary of this, the last surviving aircraft of its type residing in the grounds of the Fort.

If anyone has any pictures relating to a Blackburn Beverley aircraft, then we would be pleased to receive a copy through this Email Address

Guest Operators from far and wide are as always welcome to our activations. If you wish to stop over, then for a small fee, over night camping is available. All monies raised are used in the renovation of Fort Paull. The Fort receives NO funding from any organisation.
There is a cafe on site, and plenty of toilet facilities, and for those visiting the club, a hot drink is usually in order.

A special QSL card is available for those that work the station.

The plane was originally built at British Aerospace in Brough and made its final flight into Paull Aerodrome just outside the village, it remained there for ten years before being moved to the Beverley Army Museum where it was a focal point for visitors for several years. When the museum closed a bid was made by the Fort to purchase the aircraft. The bid was subsequently successful and in 2004 the Beverley returned home to Paull and opened to the public after re-assembly in 2005.

The staff at Fort Paull are extremely proud of this acquisition and are determined to preserve not just the fabric of the aircraft but also its history. Inside the aircraft you will find information regarding the history of the Blackburn Beverley and this specific aircraft in particular, you can also look around its massive frame and see just how much the plane could carry.

No visit to the Fort is complete without looking at the Blackburn Beverley.

Lot of info about the history of the XB259 can be found HERE

QSL Info:

Bureu is free / Direct via the QSL manager (G1TDN) with a S.A.S.E (UK) or $2 to cover postage. Please note – IRCs are now no longer valid in the UK.

Humber Fortress are GO

On Sunday 1/6/2014 the lads and lassies of HFDXARC descended on Spike G0CVL and his lovely Wife Sara.
A mammoth garden needed help after Spike had some illness.

So like Thunderbirds,s, we rushed to the rescue.

Andy G7LRR and wife Linda M6LGN, Charlie 2E0CIK, Pat 2E0KCW and wife Kay, Kevin 2E0KVK and Valerie M6OGK, John M0JBA, Dave G4ASA, Jon M6HDX and Son Elliot, Lenny M6LRR, all volunteered to help Spike tackle his encroaching jungle.

And tackle it they did! though the weather was scorching the lads and lassies Dug, Chopped, Strimmed, Sawed and burned, and cleared vast swathes of the garden, no mean feat considering the size of the said forest.
Ever the great host’s food and drinks were provided in plenty everyone worked & laughed the whole day, and gained a few scratches & sunburn also.
Still, more to do ( hint hint ) but all jokes aside, Spike and Sara are really pleased and grateful for what has been done by the team.
So all in all, another good rescue by the HFDXARC heroes back to base guys over and out.
