Time To Bring Out The Big Guns

A couple of weeks ago Kevin 2E0KVK and Pat 2E0KCW invited a few members to a shooting day at Brandesburton shooting grounds. Kevin would provide the shotguns and Pat the air rifle.

In attendance were Kevin 2E0KVK, Pat 2E0KCW, Marcin M0GLV / SP4BHD, Dave G4ASA, Valerie M6OGK, Kay SWL, Nick G0SDI, and Geoff SWL our newest would-be member.

Valerie and Kay did not shoot with the shotgun but everyone else was very keen to have a ‘go’.

Kevin gave us a master class in range discipline and then a few pointers to everyone as they stepped up to the plate. Dave could not believe he did not hurt his shoulder but he has not been seen for a few weeks so is he really telling the truth?

Marcin could not control his trigger finger, he was sure the shotgun was an AK and was very disappointed when it wasn’t.

Geoff managed to hit 3 out of 4 but was heard to say that he felt he was no good, they were too fast and he did not know where they were coming from. This is despite the fact that he asked for Trap 2 and Trap 2 was pulled for him.

Nick shot very well with his own shotgun and considering it had not been used for about 10 years did very well indeed. We were just amazed he could open it to load it as it was that stiff.

Both Pat and Kevin are excellent shots. They showed everyone how it was done and the few that Pat missed Kevin managed to hit and vice versa.

Kay took Valerie and Geoff onto the air rifle range and gave them a quick lesson; she is an excellent shot too. Geoff has finally found his sport. He has decided to take up target shooting with an air rifle and is in the process of buying himself an air rifle.

All in all a good day out….

Humber Fortress are GO

On Sunday 1/6/2014 the lads and lassies of HFDXARC descended on Spike G0CVL and his lovely Wife Sara.
A mammoth garden needed help after Spike had some illness.

So like Thunderbirds,s, we rushed to the rescue.

Andy G7LRR and wife Linda M6LGN, Charlie 2E0CIK, Pat 2E0KCW and wife Kay, Kevin 2E0KVK and Valerie M6OGK, John M0JBA, Dave G4ASA, Jon M6HDX and Son Elliot, Lenny M6LRR, all volunteered to help Spike tackle his encroaching jungle.

And tackle it they did! though the weather was scorching the lads and lassies Dug, Chopped, Strimmed, Sawed and burned, and cleared vast swathes of the garden, no mean feat considering the size of the said forest.
Ever the great host’s food and drinks were provided in plenty everyone worked & laughed the whole day, and gained a few scratches & sunburn also.
Still, more to do ( hint hint ) but all jokes aside, Spike and Sara are really pleased and grateful for what has been done by the team.
So all in all, another good rescue by the HFDXARC heroes back to base guys over and out.

Burns Supper with a difference

Every Burns Supper has its own special form and flavour, though there are probably more similarities than differences among these gastro-literary affairs. Individual tastes and talents will determine the character of your Burns Supper. Some celebrants may contribute the composition of original songs or poems; some may excel at giving toasts or reciting verse; while others may be captivating storytellers. A particular group of celebrants will, over time, develop a unique group character which will distinguish their own skills in the form of erecting aerials while drinking whisky and to make it very stealth.

We started off on a whim, without any notion of traditional form, other than the idea that we would get Kevin 2E0KVK on the 160m Band before we drink whisky (not necessarily in that order).

With a little bit of planning anyone and every thing(well, almost anyone) was in place to erect Kevin’s Aerial and have a Burns Night celebration to boot. All that’s needed is a place to gather (gracious host Mr Kevin 2E0KVK), plenty of haggis and neeps to go around (splendid chefs Valerie M6OGK and Kevin 2E0KVK), the master of ceremonies (foolhardy once again Kevin mine host), friendly celebrants (you and your drouthy cronies), and good Scotch drink to keep you warm (105 rings a bell). With these ingredients, at least a few celebrants will be able to make prattling fools of themselves, trying to do justice to the words and spirit of Robert Burns.

And if everyone brings along a wee dram then each, in turn, may become an object of mirth and amusement to the gathered throng.

Be prepared to enjoy yourself beyond all expectation. With good cheer and gay company we all may, in short, be able to ring in the Bard’s birthday fou rarely.
I’ve found that most people, although they may be unaware of it, love to attend Burns Suppers as we all did at Kevin’s.

With casting lines over tall trees and placing matching units at the base of an inverted L to elevating radials this was all done on the cold rainy day of Burns Super.

Rising to the Occasion FUNNY Tongue-in-cheek

bread

Tonight we found out that Kevin 2E0KVK has been on the bread line today “first time for everything Kevin”.

He thought he was going to make lots of dough in the posh part of Driffield.

Well he did make dough, Bread dough and all his loaves turned out great, rising to the occasion.

But did they live up to the scrutiny of his fellow hams at the radio club?

With it being Club night anyway, Kevin brought along his wares for his fellow hams to Sample .

Well in a interview Kevin wondered if he would ever make a Master baker, we are sure he said Master Baker?  .

Anyway the scores from the panel say’s it all Kevin well done.
